Shannon Banks is the principal consultant at BanksBellwether, which helps medical
practices and health care organizations to clarify their vision and implement clear
strategies for improving operational efficiency and accomplishing their goals. Her current
and recent projects include:
Leading strategic planning and operations for primary, specialty and ancillary care
services of a large multispecialty group practice ($36M revenue, 9 practice sites, 350
employees, 75 providers), where she contributed to the design and building of a patient centered state of the art medical office building, improved operating margin by $3.6 million, and implemented a new electronic health record with minimum disruption to
patient care and revenue.
Leading JCHAO accreditation preparedness for a 3 hospital system.
Partnering with the CEO of a large regional Accountable Care Organization to facilitate strategic planning, including environmental assessment, identification of critical strategies, and development of an operating plan.
Working with the Board and leadership team of an Employer led Regional Health Care Collaborative to refine their strategy and develop the organization’s plan for new data services and membership growth.
Professional Experience:
Prior to launching her own consulting firm, Shannon served as Senior VP of Delivery
System Operations and VP of Quality at Martin’s Point Health Care, a $500M, 4state
health plan with 9 primary care practice sites. Before that, she served as VP of Medical Affairs at Central Maine Health Care, a hospital system, where her responsibilities included JCHAO survey preparedness, risk management, provider relations and credentialing as well as hospital operations. She has taught Strategic Planning, Health Care Administration, and Leadership at Bates College in Maine and Antioch University in New Hampshire.
Education:
Shannon earned her B.A. in psychology from Bates College in Maine, and her M.S. in Organization and Management from Antioch New England University, in Keene, NH. She has also studied at the Edmund Muskie School of Public Service at the University of Southern Maine.
Community Service:
Shannon currently serves as President of the Board of Oasis Free Clinics, which provides free primary care and dental care to low income residents of the MidCoast Maine area. She has also served as President at Advocates for Children (the Child Abuse Prevention Agency for Androscoggin County, Maine) and as President at Zebra Crossings (NH), which provides enrichment programs for kids with chronic health conditions.
